START YOUR ENGINES FOR THE NEW LONDON MOTORSPORT SHOW
Motor racing enthusiasts, novices and professionals will come together at the new London Motorsport Show, held on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th December at London’s ExCeL, to celebrate all disciplines of motorsport. Incorporating the well established London Kart Show, the new element expands on the popular kart racing to include rally driving, saloons and single seater racers.
The show is aimed at those teams and individuals who already compete in motorsport as well as those who have an interest at grass roots level and want to know how they start racing competitively. Race series organisers, circuits, racing teams, engine and chassis manufacturers, and a host of performance related product and race clothing suppliers will be on hand to provide visitors with everything they need to get started.
The London Kart Show, now in its fourth year, is the UK’s only exhibition dedicated to the sport of karting and offers a complete showcase of everything required to start racing or for the experienced racer, what you need for the forthcoming season. Karting is where Formula 1 drivers such as Jenson Button started before working their way up through the various disciplines that lead to the Grand Prix circuit.
Show organiser Phillip Bunn said: “With the growing interest in motorsport, there needed to be a show that could educate the enthusiasts interested in how to go about participating in such an exhilarating sport. If we can encourage any of our visitors to start racing competitively, we are helping to create the future of British motorsport and potentially may find ourselves the next Nigel Mansell or Damon Hill.
"There will also be free workshops offering mechanical advice, racing tips, media awareness and much more from racing professionals and organisations such as the Motorsport Association and the Association of British Kart Clubs. Outside of the halls will be two ‘have a go’ circuits – one for karting, the other for rallying – where visitors can test their driving skills against the world’s best.
The London Motorsport Show is a must for any motor racing enthusiast - whether you dream of driving competitively, a die-hard enthusiast or a professional racer. Kart Show move to central London is on target!
The London Kart Show opens its doors on 9th and 10th December 2006 at the brand new ExCeL exhibition centre in central London www.excel-london.co.uk and promises to the largest show of its kind ever in the UK with over 100 exhibitors.
On show this year will be the majority of world class kart chassis manufacturer’s along with representation from major engine suppliers as well as race clothing retailers and a large number of accessory and timing equipment suppliers from all over the world.
The move to ExCeL London was necessary, as the show had completely outgrown its original venue.
The new venue can house an exhibition of up to 90,000 square metres, with state of the art facilities and offers the opportunity for unlimited expansion.
The London Kart Show has this year launched a separate exhibition to run in conjunction with the show called The London Motorsport Show that represents across the board motor sport and has therefore broadened the appeal to potential visitors who are interested in actively participating in some form of motor racing.
Due to the extra facilities on offer at ExCeL the organisers have created an interactive area for visitors to experience the thrills of our exciting sport which will lead to new race licence applications across the board in British motor sport.
The exhibition is actively supported by the Motor Sport Association as well as the two main associations that represent UK karting, The Association of British Kart Clubs (AbKC) and The British Karting Industries Association.(BKIA)
Philip Bunn, organiser of the two show said ‘ the move to ExCeL has proven to be the right one, and the increase in exhibitors and the number of advance tickets that we are selling is confirmation’ he said.
For further information on the two shows visit www.londonkartshow.co.uk and www.londonmotorsport.co.uk
Next year's London Kart Show will take place at ExCeL London, the spectacular, state-of-the-art international exhibition centre in Docklands, on Saturday and Sunday 9-10 December 2006. Next year's exhibition will also include the newly-launched London Motorsport Show, allowing companies from every discipline of motorsport to exhibit in the nation's capital.
Said organiser Philip Bunn: "There is a clear need for a major winter motorsport exhibition in London and the home counties, serving a very affluent target audience which includes a large proportion of the UK population. ExCeL London's location right next to an international airport also makes it easily accessible from continental Europe, which will allow businesses in France, Germany and the Low Countries to show their products to the UK motorsport market, which is of course one of the largest in the world."
This news follows the successful staging of the 3rd London Kart Show at Sandown Park, where well over 4,000 committed competitors visited companies selling everything from racing karts and safety equipment to performance parts and accessories. Attendance was up 10 per cent on the previous year, despite the Sunday morning traffic chaos caused by
the fuel fire at Hemel Hempstead.
Among the exhibitors at the London Kart Show were many promoters of 'next step' formulae - aimed at ambitious kart racers who aspire to move into cars - organisations like Caterham Motorsport, Formula Ford, T-Cars and the John Cooper Challenge.
"These companies have shown us the way to go," says show organiser Philip Bunn. "Kart racing is where most competitors begin their motor sport careers, not least because you can begin as young as age 8, and many karters eventually move on to race cars, or go rallying or hillclimbing or even to ride motorcycles. The overall theme will be affordable motorsport.
"The London Kart Show will continue in its own right, but ExCeL London offers us the space and the facilities to promote the whole spectrum of British motorsport, which is why the new London Motorsport Show will run in parallel.
"We have had three excellent years at Sandown Park, which is a super venue, but we have simply outgrown the available exhibition hall."
The new London Motorsport Show will retain and expand all the features which have made the London Kart Show so popular, including free workshops on such diverse topics as advanced driving techniques and media skills.
Comments from some exhibitors at the 2005 London Kart Show:
"We exhibited for the first time in 2005 and were extremely pleased with the reception we got from a very high quality audience. With the move to ExCeL and the launch of the London Motorsport Show alongside the kart show, this can only be beneficial for grass roots motorsport." (Andy Storer - Racing Specialist Services - Formula Vee)
"After three successful years at Sandown we certainly support the move to ExCel, as this can only enhance the profile of karting, especially if the exhibition is expanded to run alongside a new London Motorsport Show. We have been an exhibitor from the start and will certainly be at ExCel next year." (Bill Sisley - Managing Director,
Buckmore Park Kart Circuit)
"We have exhibited at The London Kart Show since it started three years ago, and each year has been more and more successful for us, with strong interest from established kart drivers looking to make the move into cars. The move to ExCeL is right and I believe that motorsport in general will benefit as a result." (Andrew Crighton - Advent Motorsport - T-Cars and John Cooper Challenge)

LONDON KART SHOW
9-11 DECEMBER 2005
SANDOWN PARK, ESHER, SURREY, UK
Next year marks the 50th anniversary of the invention of kart racing. The sport began with the construction of the very first go-kart in the USA in 1956 and has since become a global sport, with World, European and National champions.
To celebrate the sport's first half century, next month's London Kart Show will include a special display at the Sandown Park Exhibition Centre on 9-11 December.
The 2005 London Kart Show promises to be the biggest and best ever:
exhibitor space is almost completely sold out - "There are maybe two very small stands left," says show organiser Philip Bunn - and advance ticket sales are 20 percent up on last year. General admission tickets can still be bought on the door for £7 per adult (children under 6 are free; children under 17 are £5).
Most major European chassis manufacturer will be represented at the Show, many displaying karts built to the new homologation regulations which apply from 1 January 2006. They will be joined by more than 60 companies selling everything from racewear and safety equipment to performance parts and karting accessories.
Making a first appearance at the show will be the new 'Volunteers in
Motorsport' leaflets, designed to help clubs attract marshals and officials into the sport. This is part of a project supported by the MSA (the UK governing body for karting) and with government funding. The leaflets have a contact number, space for local club details, and the Volunteers in Motorsport website address.
Back by popular demand are the London Kart Show Master Classes. In addition to those announced earlier, there will be a TAG (Touch & Go) Master Class on the future of karting, plus a Master Class hosted by Adam and Tracy Jones of 100cc PR on how a successful driver should conduct a press campaign.
"Whether you already compete, or are thinking of kart racing in the future, this show will help you make the decisions which will influence your future success," said Philip Bunn. "This is the perfect opportunity to view, compare and buy equipment for next season, whether you compete at club, national or international level. Even if you plan to graduate from karts to cars, many of the most important 'stepping stone' car series will also be at the show."
The London Kart Show takes place at Sandown Park Exhibition Centre in Esher, Surrey, only 10 minutes from the M25 and 20 minutes from the centre of London.
